sleep well, live better with This Works
World Sleep Day 2026 focuses on the importance of sleep for our physical, mental and emotional health.

Friday 13th March 2026 marks World Sleep Day, and this year's theme, ‘Sleep Well, Live Better’, focuses on how good-quality sleep is vital for better physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. While this is a new theme for some, it’s the very basis on which we at This Works have built our reputation. We have made it our mission to bring simple, science-backed solutions for better sleep, focus, stress, and mood management that work with modern lifestyles. Backed by science and with good quality sleep at the root of our brand, we’ve been pioneers in the sleep market since 2004. Our clinically proven, independently and panel-tested, award-winning pillow sprays now, after 15 years, speak for themselves and have cemented us as a brand people can depend on to improve their wellbeing and ultimately, their lives.
Since our launch in 2004, our aim has always been to create sleep and wellness products that not only work but fit into, and most importantly, improve people’s lives. It was our mission to put sleep on the map by educating people about the Circadian Rhythm (the internal 24-hour clock that governs alertness, hormone release, and sleep) and the importance of high-quality, restorative rest. We did this by developing a first-of-its-kind Functional Fragrance for our iconic deep sleep pillow spray and, eventually, the rest of our Deep Sleep collection. Today, we’ve naturally evolved into the world of neurocosmetics, creating solutions for nervous system regulation. Our most recent launch, Own Time, is our first Eau De Parfum, which works to bridge the gap between fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest by expanding our evening collection beyond sleep. We want to show that, through neuro-modulating fragrance and behavioural adjustments, we can transform how we respond to stress and leverage these tools for calmer, more connected evenings, leading to better sleep.

science-backed sleep care
As early pioneers in the field of neurocosmetics, we have been collaborating with Professor Gaby Badre (MD, PhD, associate professor, neuroscientist & medical doctor) since 2017. Professor Badre and his team at Swedsleep Sweden have conducted a suite of studies on our behalf, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and an electroencephalogram (EEG) to measure brain activity, and polysomnography and neurography to measure sleep activity in a clinical setting. They have published a peer-reviewed paper. (Chem. Percept. 13 93—105 (2020) Ackerley, R., Croy, I., Olausson, H. et al.). This pioneering research has led to the development of our Functional Fragrances.
In 2017, we conducted a pilot study on our now-signature Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance, which uses a blend of Lavender, Camomile, and Vetivert. Each of these essential oils is renowned for its calming properties, and when blended, they create the powerful fragrance that helped 97% of users in our clinical study sleep better. Aside from smelling luxuriously inviting, our Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance activated areas of the brain associated with emotions, pleasure and calmness when tested in an fMRI study on 30 people in 2017, which concluded that the fragrance has the potential to encourage a predisposition towards sleep.*

reframing your routines
Many people face a common problem when it comes to achieving good quality sleep: switching off. Modern life means the lines between work, home, alert and rest are more blurred than ever, and with digital devices, switching off is even harder. Many of us consider endless scrolling as ‘downtime’, but the light and constant stream of content is keeping us more alert, even if it feels like we’re relaxing – our brains are doing the opposite. While many are seeking better sleep and leaning on sleep tracking, wearable tech, or innovative sleep solutions, our bodies still lack the calm, safe spaces to leave overstimulation behind and the behavioural changes needed to do so.
“Choosing behaviours that support mental calm and physical relaxation helps the brain create new neural pathways and support the balance of the nervous system. Support your neurojourney by stimulating the vagus nerve by inhaling the fragrance for two seconds, exhaling for six, dropping your shoulders and looking out into the distance.” - our CEO, Dr Anna Persaud
A solid bedtime routine is not just for little ones – it's the foundation for better-quality sleep, no matter your age, and something that can be leaned upon when environmental factors (like a seasonal clock change) come into play. Our sleep care products are designed to bring rest and better-quality sleep within reach by seamlessly fitting into your evenings and lifestyles through a simple ritual that relaxes the brain and body. Here’s how you can incorporate small changes and powerful products into your life for better sleep.

step one: starting the day right
Did you know that you can begin working on a good night’s sleep from the moment you wake up? Getting 30-60 minutes of natural daylight as close to waking up as possible can help anchor your circadian rhythm, whether there is bright sunlight or not. Avoiding your phone and giving yourself a few moments to settle into the morning and standing in the garden - if possible - or going for a walk, can make all the difference to your day and your sleep.
step two: reclaim your evenings for rest
Our brand-new Eau De Parfum, Own Time, is the first product in our portfolio of neurocare products, created with a unique blend of behaviour-altering terpenes informed by over 7 years of neuroscientific research. This blend is designed to be spritzed at the beginning of your evening, helping engage the parasympathetic nervous system, making it feel safe to let the day go from that moment onward. This helps tell the brain it is time to transition from daytime alertness to evening rest, and to focus on enjoying a meal, digesting, connecting with loved ones and supporting deeper, better-quality sleep.
Own Time supports the nervous system, but it also requires mindful behavioural change – the combination of both is where the magic lies. By consistently spritzing every evening, it helps your brain create a familiar association with the scent, recognising that this is the time to leave daytime behind and melt into the safety and comfort of being at home, ready to switch into rest-and-digest mode.
Once spritzed, take your evening at a slow pace, enjoy your meal at the table and avoid using devices 2-3 hours before you plan to slip into bed. Switch off big ceiling lights and opt for lamps instead, or even better, light a deep sleep heavenly candle to enjoy soft, flickering candlelight and the sleep-promoting Functional Fragrance of Lavender, Camomile and Vetivert.

step three: wash away the day
A warm bath in the evening is a great way to relax. Try adding a handful of deep sleep beauty soak to your running water and let the muscle-supporting mineral blend melt mental and physical stress away. 5% Magnesium, Zinc and Sodium help ease muscle tension while Sesquiterpenes and Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance support better-quality sleep. If you’re more of a shower person, deep sleep shower gel uses the same Functional Fragrance and a sulphate-free formula to cleanse the skin without irritation.
step four: embrace affective touch
Studies show that slow stroking and rhythmic touching can decrease heart rate and increase parasympathetic indicators such as high-frequency HRV and respiratory rate. Combining sleep-promoting bodycare like our deep sleep body whip or deep sleep beauty oil with affective touch is a powerful way to regulate the nervous system and prepare the mind for better-quality sleep through both the intentional application and the Lavender, Camomile and Vetivert Functional Fragrance.

step five: the final wind down
After moisturising the skin, slip into breathable, comfortable pyjamas and make sure the room temperature is cool. Reading or journaling is a great way to end the day with something joyful but not too overstimulating. Breathwork, meditation or gentle stretching can also ease that transition into sleep. As a final step in your pre-bedtime routine, spritz our multi-award-winning deep sleep pillow spray onto pyjamas and bed linens to help cue the brain for sleep, quiet racing thoughts, and improve the quality of your night.
With the spring clock change coming up on Sunday 29th March, now is the perfect time to recommit to better rest. For more tips on how to brush up your sleep hygiene, visit our wellness hub, here.
